My specialty lies in working with children, teens, and adults working with anxiety, depression, trauma, parenting, behavioral issues, self-esteem, and life transitions. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) which is an evidence-based psychotherapy for PTSD and can help with processing of traumatic memories or experiences (see more below).

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a therapeutic approach used to help individuals process distressing memories and experiences. During an EMDR session, the therapist guides the client to engage in bilateral stimulation, such as moving their eyes back and forth or tapping alternately on their left and right sides.

The bilateral stimulation is believed to help access and process traumatic memories more effectively, which can lead to a reduction in the emotional charge associated with those memories. Through this process, clients may experience a shift in their thoughts, feelings, or beliefs about the traumatic event, ultimately leading to healing and resolution.

EMDR is often used to treat conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, phobias, and other trauma-related issues. It is a powerful and effective therapeutic technique that can help individuals reprocess difficult experiences and move towards a place of healing and wholeness.

Brainspotting

Brainspotting is a therapeutic technique that helps individuals process and overcome trauma, negative emotions, and other challenges by focusing on a "brainspot" that correlates with the issue being addressed. A brainspot is an eye position that is connected to a specific memory or emotion in the individual's brain. By engaging the client's field of vision and locating these brainspots, a therapist can help facilitate processing and healing. This innovative approach can lead to profound emotional healing and relief.

Client-Centered Approach

When using a client-centered approach to therapy, the focus is on the client's unique experiences, feelings, and perspectives. The therapist creates a safe and nonjudgmental space for the client to explore their thoughts and emotions while offering empathy, understanding, and support. This approach emphasizes the client as the expert of their own life, empowering them to set their goals for therapy and work towards positive change at their own pace. The therapist acts as a guide, providing unconditional positive regard and genuine empathy to help the client gain insight, self-acceptance, and personal growth.
